SUMMARY
Mechanical engineering professional with several years experience in medical
device product development. Background in testing and mechanical design, as
well as development of metal and plastic parts and assemblies.
Results-oriented team player with demonstrated success in projects and
product development.
PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
Vision-Sciences
- Natick, MA
Vision Sciences is the leading provider of
sterile disposable
sheaths for endoscopes.
R&D Project Engineer -
December 2002 to Present
Medical device product development.
Developed sterile sheaths (Class II) for endoscopes.
Tyco Healthcare /
Puritan-Bennett
- Indianapolis, IN
Puritan Bennett is the leading worldwide designer and
manufacturer of liquid oxygen medical devices for home therapy.
Senior Engineer (III) -
June 1999 to July 2002
Developed Class II medical device products.
Researched customer requirements, compiled product specifications, directed
industrial design, designed machined and sheet metal and plastic
injection-molded components and integrated systems together. Coordinated
design teams across three sites, and handed-off projects to manufacturing.
Acted as systems administrator for Pro/Engineer and Pro/Intralink.
- Major contributor to new product line that pushed
sales up over 225% (increased revenue $10.1m), requiring manufacturing to
relocate to a larger facility. As a result, this product line was the only
one in the division that was not shut down or moved overseas.
- Won a 2001 Medical Design Excellence Award.
-
Awarded design patents
D0436401 and
D0437056 and
utility patents
6,575,159,
6,742,517
and
6,843,247.
- Relocated R&D department to California. Project
budgeted $50k, used only $20k.
Project Engineer (II) -
March 1997 to June 1999
Configured and
outfitted cryogenics research laboratory to use automated data acquisition
systems. Set up and ran multiple product evaluation test programs. Conducted
customer research, developed parts and systems. Addressed and closed out
field-service issues and corrective actions.
- Developed and proved out technique to eliminate
oxygen loss; saved customers $120 per unit per year.
Whirlpool Corporation
- West Lafayette, IN
West Lafayette facility packaged factory replacement parts to service
Whirlpool appliances.
Quality Control Team Member
- January 1995 to March 1997
Managed product flow, inspection of parts and packaging on a
part-time basis. Safely operated industrial powered vehicles (forklifts and
stackers). Developed training manuals and instructed trainees as a member of
the QC Training Committee.
- Support Employee of the Month,
October 1995.
- Highest rated employee in QC/IO
department history.
Production - Sept. 1994 to
Jan. 1995
Repacked OEM service parts for distribution to service centers
(part-time).
- Consistently exceeded production standards by
optimizing production work cell layouts.
Purdue University - West Lafayette, IN
Paper Grader - Spring 1996
Graded papers and homeworks for graduate mechanics of materials course.
Massachusetts Institute
of Technology Plasma Fusion Center -
Cambridge, MA
The Plasma Fusion Center is MIT’s research and development group
investigating nuclear fusion reactors.
Sponsored Research Engineer
- June 1992 through July 1994
Developed and executed a high-cycle fatigue test program for
nickel-iron alloy Incoloy 908. Operated scanning electron microscope,
evaluated fracture surfaces. Compiled the first comprehensive material
properties database for Incoloy 908. Assisted in development and
optimization of extrusion process.
- Co-published research in Advances
in Cryogenic Engineering Materials & IEEE/NPSS Proceedings on Plasma
Physics
Co-op Summer Research Program Summer 1991
Analyzed superconducting magnet data.
Copy Cop, Inc.
- Boston, MA
Copy Cop is the leading local copy and printing business in Boston
